The Monarchy
The nobility and clergy enjoyed many privileges in the time before the French Revolution. Their privileges continued even though the monarchy continued even though the monarchy was deeply in debt. The monarchy put into effect that only commoners needed to pay taxes and this angered them. The French peasants were dissatisfied and restless and then Louis XVI raised taxes again. The French Revolution was fought to balance inequalities in French Society.
